It turns out that there were animals in the grandstands, as well as on the track during the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby. In a viral video that has been viewed millions of times across Twitter, Derby fans can be seen throwing down hard, leaving one participant with a concerningly bloody eye. 

While Mage was busy shocking the world by winning the biggest event in horse racing from 15-1 odds, well-dressed fans were busy turning the derby from Kentucky to demolition. In an event shrouded by controversy over the killing of multiple horses pre-race, the quarreling fans did nothing to help mend the reputation of this year's, particularly bloody event. 

"Heard it was over an accusation that his blazer was from Brooks Brothers," @markreiboldt joked on Twitter. 

"Money can't buy class!" @naked_trades added.

The video's original poster, nofones, also posted an alleged letter from one of the combatant's lawyers asking him to remove the clip. However, that letter appears less than official. 

There's no question that the Kentucky Derby's reputation took a hit this year, despite putting on a fantastic race. If they want to win back fans, they'll have to convince the public anew that they're a high-class event, handled with care and humanity. Too bad their fans weren't up to that challenge.
